One Healthy Habit that can improve your jaw pain

Jaw pain can feel different for everyone, so it's essential to create a personalized treatment plan for each person. However, many people with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) share similar resting tongue and jaw postures. To check your resting posture, close your lips and pay attention to these two points:

  1. Where is your tongue's tip resting? Where are the middle and back parts?

  2. Are your teeth touching or is there a space between them?

The ideal position is:

  1. Your tongue should rest gently on the roof of your mouth without pressing against your top front teeth.

  2. There should be a gap between your upper and lower teeth.

This position may feel unusual at first but shouldn’t be painful. If it hurts, stop right away. When you're not eating or talking, try to keep your tongue and jaw in this ideal position to avoid overworking your chewing muscles, which can make your jaw symptoms worse.
